Cool, cool water!

How do significant life events or the passage of time influence your perspective on life?

As I approach 82, several things have occurred to me. One is the absolute delight of cold water from the tap*, in the evening in particular. During the summer, the water is usually tepid but once autumn has truly set in, the water starts getting colder and colder. Now, in February, it is sooooo gooood! During the day I try to drink about a litre and a half of tap water and keep a litre bottle next to my seat at the table to remind me. But, when I go upstairs to get ready for bed, after I brush my teeth, that water is THE BEST!

(I know…..I shouldn’t drink anything after I brush because I’m washing away the fluoride in the toothpaste , but I’m just about too old to care)!

(Cold water from the fridge isn’t the same, in case you were going to suggest that for the warmer months – I can’t tell you why, it just isn’t.)

*tap – what we call the faucet in the UK.

Also – there’s a song about cool water, sung, I think, by Gene Autrey. Unless you are my age, or a tiny bit younger, you’re not likely to know who he is – or, rather, was. On Saturday mornings he used to appear in old movies on tv. He was also a singer. Go to YouTube. I’m sure he’ll be on there. And, if it wasn’t him singing, the song will be there, too (I think). 👵🏻

About Candy

I have reached the grand old age of 82 now. Until the mid 90’s I was a teacher, then a dealer in antiques and collectables which I loved! When I retired to the seaside I started a website selling antique and vintage games and wooden jigsaw puzzles. Now, I'm spending my time blogging and making oil paintings as well as looking after my very spoiled dog, Lola.

I absolutely HATE the taste of my tap water but can’t bring myself to buy so called “Spring water” that’s sold in plastic bottles.

The tap water at my mother’s house in North London actually smelled like swimming baths water. There was so much chlorine in it.

Because I have a stream in my garden from a spring that literally comes out of the ground, all my dogs preferred to drink from the stream rather than their water bowl. People often ask “Could you drink this water?” and I answer “yes, we could but I do see ducks pooing in it”…..still think it would taste better than our tap water!

I can’t remember what East Malling tap water tastes like so can’t comment on your dislike but I can say that most of the time our water tastes okay. I have found, on occasion, that water that has stood for a while, tastes of TCP! But straight from the tap, it’s divine! Julian buys ‘spring’ water for himself .
My grandma Ethel had all her water softened in some way so was undrinkable from the tap. She had huge bottles of water delivered weekly – it didn’t tasted very good either! Of course, as with everything else, people have different likes and dislikes in many areas including taste! It’s what makes us unique ish) I guess. 😃

Yes….every now and then, our water tastes like TCP! we can taste it in the tea.

I wonder what it is that’s doing it. x
