Change my name? You’re joking! It’s the perfect name!

If you had to change your name, what would your new name be?

I will begin by saying that quite often, on hearing my name people congratulate me on it. It’s not as though I, Candy Jeffers, married Julian Lovegrove and became Candy Lovegrove, just because of his surname. (though I do admit, it’s a jolly good name)

Why would anyone want to change their name? If it’s just the first name, I could understand a girl named Chardonnay or Sauternes or Prosecco might want to be known as Carol, Susan or Patty but changing one’s full name seems very unusual.

And, if your mother takes to writing her memoirs online and you don’t want your students to know she is talking about you, she might choose a fun new name for herself to be used in those memoirs.

Okay, there are girls who want to change their surname to the boy they fancy, but what happens when they fancy someone else? (It happens!) I sincerely doubt that the majority of women look for a man with what they consider the perfect surname.

I know that people must change their name because they’re in hiding from gangsters or dangerous ex’s but mostly, they don’t get to choose their new name.

So, no, I don’t want to change my name, thanks!

I’d def. want a name I could pronounce!

About Candy

I have reached the grand old age of 83 now. Until the mid 90’s I was a teacher, then a dealer in antiques and collectables which I loved! When I retired to the seaside I started a website selling antique and vintage games and wooden jigsaw puzzles. Now, I'm spending my time blogging and making oil paintings as well as looking after my very spoiled dog, Lola.

I really wish I’d reverted to my ‘maiden name’ when I got divorced.

Nurses call out “Mrs. Brassiere” in waiting rooms to muffled giggles.

My former name, Robson, is a fine Northumbrian name from my dad’s family of strong, hardworking men and women.

Now……don’t be offended but I always thought that the name Candy was too lightweight and cute for you, oh wise white haired woman.x

Thanks for commenting, Diane. I can see why you think you should have changed your name! Robson is a very nice surname (though it reminds me of a couple of kids I used to teach in Snodland). Re: Candy – you’re right! I suppose I could use Candida but it is so often wrongly pronounced. On the other hand, the name, Candy Lovegrove, just sounds so nice! Probably too cute for me but I’m just lucky, I guess. And, on the other other hand, Candy is such a silly name for an 81 year old! Still, I’m stuck with it.😄

Hi. Yes, the name Candida definitely suggests a strong woman but also, tall and imposing (to me) – so unlike short, fat me!
There were two Robson boys who were brothers and from a travelling family. It must have been about 1987/8 when I came across them at Holmesdale.
